Variscite adds QNX RTOS to System on Module porfolio
Variscite has announced the availability of the QNX Operating System 8.0 across its i.MX 8M Plus modules. This addition provides customers with a secure RTOS for highly reliable embedded systems that require long-term function, precise timing, and uncompromised performance.
QNX is commonly used in critical embedded systems across industrial IoT, healthcare, and aerospace/defence sectors. Its commercial-grade, microkernel-based real-time operating system (RTOS) is ideal for secure, robust devices needing a solid hardware-software foundation.
QNX on Variscite SoMs provides numerous benefits, including enhanced security mechanisms tailored for industries with strict compliance requirements, professional software support from QNX, and regular updates with lifecycle commitments by QNX. The QNX RTOS complies with IEC 62304 software standards and other safety certifications, complementing Variscite’s extensive range of hardware certifications, such as ISO 13485.
Variscite’s product portfolio includes two highly scalable, pin-compatible SoM families: the VAR-SOM and DART, which provide significant advantages for product development and lifecycle management. This Pin2Pin compatibility enables customers to easily migrate between different performance levels without redesigning their carrier boards, facilitating seamless upgrades or downgrades as project requirements evolve.
The QNX RTOS is now available for i.MX8M-PLUS and i.MX8 SoMs, with plans to extend compatibility to additional SoM series such as the i.MX9, addressing a wider range of application requirements and end-product specifications.
